Muntons Take Steps to Limit Impact of Hard Brexit

Muntons

As uncertainty continues surrounding the outcome of Brexit, one local company has taken the decision to mitigate potential risks by applying for and achieving Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status through HM Revenue and Customs.

Muntons, manufacturers of malt and malted ingredients based in Stowmarket have successfully achieved this security standard effective from the 1st July 2019.  AEO is recognised across the UK and Europe, and is designed to introduce security measures to safeguard goods passing through the international supply chain.

AEO is helping to prevent smuggling, tampering with goods, false documentation, identity fraud and theft; tangible benefits for companies who have achieved this certification.  Other benefits include simplified customs procedures and the possibility to fast track shipments and of course Muntons customers will benefit from reassurance and peace of mind.

Corinne Robinson, service Manager at Muntons commented: “Gaining AEO accreditation gives us ready access to any simplifications that HMRC may introduce to prevent delays at Channel ports in the event of a ‘No Deal’ situation.  It is very likely that such facilitations will only be granted to ‘Trusted Traders’ so, gaining AEO is an important achievement for us.”
