The Borehole Users Conference is the only conference in the UK that is dedicated to borehole water supplies.Theannual event has been growing since 2013 and has established itself as the essential professional forum for anyone who uses, manages, owns or plans to develop a borehole-based water supply. It’s straightforward, pragmatic presentations from industry experts makes it particularly relevant to operators of water supply boreholes.
As well as a full agenda of talks, the conference features a high-quality trade exhibition, showcasing some of the best drillers, pump and equipment suppliers, laboratory services, geophysics and specialist monitoring equipment in the industry.
The theme of this years’ conference was “Borehole Rehabilitation Made Simple”. A variety of speakers discussed ways to rehabilitate and maintain boreholes properly, which is vital if you want your borehole to provide years of reliable service. Georg Houben, our keynote speaker from the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources, spoke about water well rehabilitation. Phil Merrin, previously of United Utilities, discussed proactive versus reactive maintenance, whilst Dr Phil Ham, Managing Director of Envireau Water, spoke about what borehole rehabilitation means to operators in practice, using real life case studies.
The afternoon workshop sessions were split into: ‘Practical Rehabilitation- The State of the Art’ and ‘Private Water Supply Boreholes – What the EHO Needs to Know’. The Practical Rehabilitation workshop featured talks from James Whitford,Professor Rick Brassington and Michael Bushby. The Private Water Supplies workshop featured presentations from Jamie Blackwell, Adam Neillings, Paul Avis and Sara Watson. Each of the afternoon sessions culminated in a lively discussion around the topics and issues raised. The conference closed with a plenary session featuring an update on progress with the development of a European Standard for Water Supply Borehole Design and Construction, followed by a round of drinks and relaxed networking in our conference social. Feedback from both delegates and exhibitors was exceptional this year – it was a valuable event for everyone who attended.
