Innovative labelling for The Macallan’s 200th Anniversary and IC Filling Systems’ 30th Anniversary

001

When The Macallan Distillery marked their 200th anniversary, they wanted packaging that was as exceptional as their whisky. Designing the special edition’s complex and delicate labelling wasn’t just a task — it was an art. And that’s where IC Filling Systems came in.

We provided a custom-built linear labeller, engineered specifically to handle the fragile glass without causing any damage during transit inside the labeller.

We also designed the system with flexibility in mind, preparing 3 stations with 3 additional positions for future expansion, resulting in a total of 6 stations (check out the layout diagram below!).

Our goal? To create a versatile unit capable of handling other specialist projects in the future.

Tolerances of 1.5mm for label positioning…

Precision was key. The project required extreme accuracy—tolerances of just 1.5mm — to apply small self-adhesive labels onto a metal ring pre-mounted on the bottle (take a look at the photo!). To make it happen, The Macallan called on our Scottish and Italian teams to collaborate closely with their technical experts.

A year in development…

We had already worked successfully with the Edrington team before, providing a flexible linear bottling and labelling system for the USA. For this anniversary project, it took about a year from start to finish — a challenging yet rewarding journey — and it coincided with our own milestone: IC Filling Systems’ 30th anniversary.

This collaboration is a testament to what’s possible when innovation, craftsmanship, and expertise come together.
