Graphic Packaging International, a global leader in sustainable consumer packaging, has procured a Scodix Ultra 6000 digital enhancement press, an investment that meets healthcare and beauty industry demands for smaller volume runs of highly embellished packaging.

Installed in Graphic Packaging’s Munich, Germany packaging manufacturing facility, this state-of-the-art press represents a significant advancement in digital printing technology. By replacing traditional die-based embellishment methods with a digital process, the Scodix Ultra 6000 offers premium packaging enhancements like metallic and gloss accents, 3D textures, eye-catching holographic effects, and tactile varnishes, along with greater design flexibility.

The Scodix Ultra 6000 delivers easier customization, faster production cycles, and the ability to produce paperboard packaging in smaller batch sizes. This enables healthcare and beauty brands of all sizes to leverage advanced packaging finishes from a single platform, offering many exciting creative design possibilities.

A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) conducted by Scodix determined that their digital technology helps to reduce waste, conserve energy, and minimize environmental impact. According to the LCA, water use was found to be reduced by 80 percent and emissions and energy by around 85 percent compared to traditional methods. In addition, Scodix enhanced print is certified as recyclable.

Hilde van Moeseke, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Healthcare and Beauty at Graphic Packaging, welcomed the investment, saying, “We’re driven by our need to continually improve and offer newer, advanced technologies that support our customers in their journey to high-performance product packaging. This new digital finishing technology enables us to shorten lead times and improve efficiency for our customers, especially those who require smaller volumes.

“The Scodix Ultra 6000 press extends our offering of recyclable, enhanced solutions that help the customer to reduce environmental impact and improve circularity while delivering exceptional visual appeal. We are delighted to be able to support our customers with the embellishment technologies of tomorrow – today.
