BoxWay Packaging Group, the innovative, customer-focussed, design-led corrugated cardboard packaging business, has today announced it has successfully attained its first milestone in its journey to net zero by achieving Carbon Neutrality for its Boundary Period ‘Operational Control’ emissions.
BoxWay Packaging Group, with assistance from leading Carbon Accountancy consultants, Turning The Black Country Green (TTBCG.com), has measured and calculated the carbon emissions for its ‘Operational Control’ emissions to include all scope 1 and scope 2 emissions and seven of the 15 categories of Scope 3 for the Boundary Period 1 January 2024 – 31 December 24 and mitigated these to achieve Carbon Neutral status for ‘Operational Control’ boundary.
Andrew Woollard, CEO of BoxWay Packaging Group, comments: “BoxWay Packaging Group is fully committed to measure, calculate, mitigate and report the remaining eight categories of Scope 3 to achieve ISO 14068-1 Carbon Neutral certification later this year. Achieving this strategically critical certification in 2025 will demonstrate to our customers and staff our commitment to addressing our contribution to the global climate crisis as all our products will have a ‘zero carbon footprint’.
From this initial boundary period calculation, BoxWay Packaging Group is building a decarbonization plan to achieve Net Zero by 2045, five years ahead of the UK backstop. The Group will target a 50% reduction in ‘Operational Control’ emissions by 2035 and work closely with the entire supply chain to ensure its decarbonization is aligned to BoxWay’s industry leading targets.
Mr. Woollard continues: “The climate crisis didn’t happen overnight, and we certainly won’t solve it overnight, but I am delighted BoxWay Packaging Group now has a plan to achieve Net Zero ahead of the UK backstop. It is everyone’s responsibility to reduce their impact on the global climate crisis. We are not only building an environmentally sustainable business, but also a financially sustainable business, since procurement is no longer solely about price and service, but is today very much driven by CARBON, price and service.”
Dom Napier, MD of TTBCG.com, comments: “We are immensely proud to support Andrew and the whole team at BoxWay Packaging Group through their commitment to achieving Carbon Neutral certification and Net Zero by 2045. The climate crisis affects EVERYONE, and it is EVERYONE’S responsibility to do everything they can in reducing carbon emissions to secure our planet for future generations to come. David Attenborough states: “Right now we have the capacity and knowledge to stop the damage we are doing, but what we don’t have is time.”
Carbon Neutral certification is the short/medium term objective ahead of the long-term commitment to becoming Net Zero by 2045. The ‘Operational Control’ emissions for the boundary period were offset through the purchase and retirement of verified carbon credits from four different global projects, which not only mitigated the carbon footprint but also demonstrate additional social and humanitarian benefits through the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).
