Ruth Evans visited the new premises of Alan Courtenay Limited this week.
Based in four smart new units, joined together spanning 20,000sqft on Marrtree Industrial Estate and conveniently located off the A1M in the heart of North Yorkshire; the new directors Nigel Farrar, Harpreet and Ramanjit Bola are driving the development and growth of a new look Alan Courtenay Limited. With its core values remaining true to its long standing history, a proud British manufacturer, offering choice and value added solutions to the dispense industry.
Well known for the manufacture of quality fonts and printing of lenses, Alan Courtenay has invested in an impressive range of new machinery and processes. Their access to laser cutting, injection moulding, high quality printing and fabrication delivers a true “Designed and manufactured in Britain” message.
Many will know Nigel Farrar from Angram and, latterly, Celli. Having left Celli and spending some personal time, Nigel joined Alan Courtenay in February 2024 officially and became equal partner with Ramanjit and Harpreet, and together they haven’t let the grass grow.
The strategy of Alan Courtenay (under the parent company Perigon Holdings) is to offer the total end to end manufacturing process to meet all customer needs. Due to its manufacturing flexibility, they can offer customised and bespoke solutions, whatever the size of the request. Alan Courtenay are able to provide a full service from design right through to manufacturing, asset tracking, refurbishment and final disposal.
Nigel is keen to stress that, as well as adding value, his mantra is “sustainability of the dispense sector supply chain” and that this can be done best via partnership and collaboration. One partnership Nigel was able to speak about is that with Hallamshire Brewery Equipment Services, facilitating the refurbishment of dispense equipment.
While the affiliation with Hallamshire offers added value for both businesses, it more importantly offers expert refurbishment knowledge in utilising and maximising existing equipment. Furthermore, new projects are now developed with the goal of reuse, return and recycle. The ethos of the businesses is to achieve carbon reduction from design to final packaging and transportation. Other key partnerships are already in the mix and we look forward to hearing about them in the future.
The three directors have not only invested in manufacturing capabilities; their approach is all encompassing, resulting in investment in people and the wider team, such as talented product developers which has already seen the business achieve success in all areas of dispense, with the launch of its first entirely bespoke unit imminent.
The print department has the latest printing technology backed by an experienced graphics team, that can turn concept branding into finished product within 10 days and no minimum run length (they start at 1), no job is too small. With the ability to print up to 3,000 lenses a day, no job is too big either.
Celebrating their 40th anniversary last year, Alan Courtenay will be holding an Open Day early 2025. Those attending are invited to bring their ideas and any existing designs to see it translated into keg lens artwork on the day. Discounts on keg lens prichttp://mail to: info@bfbi.org.ukes will be given to any attendees.
