Joules Brewery

Head Brewer

Joule’s Brewery is seeking a Head Brewer to run its brewing operations based at Market Drayton in North Shropshire.  The brewery is a 30 barrel plant, electronically controlled, purpose built in 2009, designed by M projects and housed in a new brewhouse adjacent to one of the company’s brewery taps, the award winning Red Lion Inn.  A lab was installed in 2014 and a malt handling system in 2016.  Current production is in the region of 150 brewers barrels per week.

Joule’s is set up to produce both cask and craft keg, [6 by 30 FV’s] with the core brand being Joule’s Pale Ale.  The brewery has also developed a cold conditioned operation with 3 by 60 brls dpvs and 3 by 30 brl dpv’s.  The craft keg operation is designed to produce the highest quality chilled and filtered craft beer, with the core brand being Green Monkey English Craft Lager launched in 2014.  The brewing strategy is focused on quality and beer variety rather than volume and in particular to meet the demand of the brewery’s own estate of 40 dedicated brewery tap houses.

Joule’s is also a brewing partner with Everards brewery for which the brewery supplies some of the smaller Everards core brands as well as some seasonal beers.

Plans for the future include the creation of an onsite warehouse to improve work space since demand has increased, refining the plant as required, as well as evaluating some small scale packaging of specialist beers to support the pub estate.

The Head Brewer forms part of a harmonious and dedicated senior management team working closely with marketing, commercial, pub operations, sales and the directors of the business.  This is a close knit team where beer, beer excitement, great real pubs and the pursuit of excellence is at its heart.  The role is pivotal and is recognised with a higher than average industry salary, in excess of 50k per annum, with a generous performance related senior management team bonus.

A relocation allowance will be provided if relevant, the brewery also has a one bedroom loft style apartment available, should it be required during transition.

All enquires are welcome and will be treated in the strictest confidence:
